Welcome to the 2014 - 2015 PDF Champions Page for Rachel Isenberg
Date of Event: 08/25/2013
Location: Mt. Whitney, California
Hello, dear family and friends,
Happy summer. This year, I will be climbing Mt Whitney in California with my good friends, Ashley and Lee, who recently moved out west.
Mt Whitney is one of my favorite places in the world. I have been there once before, but the weather got biblical (read: lightning and hail storm) and we could not finish the climb. So, I'm excited to go back and conquer the 14,505 ft mountain (highest in the continental US).
For those that are new to summer challenge, here are the highlights. Since 2008, with the help of good friends (shout out to Andrea C, Erin, Doug), I have endeavored in a personal physical challenge:
2008 - climb of Mt. Rainier
2009 - biked 468 miles across the state of Iowa
2010 - half marathon in Philly
2011 - climb of Mt. Kilimanjaro
2012 - biked 438 miles from Pittsburgh back to Philadelphia
In 2009, I developed a fundraising component to the challenge, which has added much meaning to my experiences. In the past four years, with your amazing help, I have raised over $13,500 for the Adult Congenital Heart Association and the Parkinson’s Disease Foundation. Both are wonderful and important organizations that are close to my family’s heart. Thank you for your ongoing support!
This summer, I am again raising funds for the Parkinson’s Disease Foundation. Since 1957, PDF has been “a leading national presence in Parkinson’s disease research, education and public advocacy…working for the nearly one million people in the US who live with Parkinson’s…” As many of you know, my mother struggles with the disease and my grandfather dealt with it late in his life, as well.
Please join me in this effort. Any support you can offer is significant and would mean a lot to me and the organization. And, as always, I do accept high-fives.
Much love and gratitude,
Everyday is a big day
