Welcome to the 2013 - 2014 PDF Champions Page for David Blomquist
Launch Date: 5/25/2013
Location: The Mississippi River
David Blomquist, senior national programs coordinator for the Parkinson's Disease Foundation, and his fiancé, Linnea Goderstad, have had the somewhat crazy but adventurous idea for 10 years to canoe the length of the Mississippi River. This summer we're attempting to make it a reality. Because of Dave's connection to PDF, we thought it would be a great opportunity to continue supporting the Parkinson's community by becoming PDF Champions.
We are setting out Memorial Day weekend 2013 from Lake Itasca in northern Minnesota, the official headwaters of the Mississippi River. We'll be camping for the most part and stopping to see the sights in the cities and towns on the way. Hopefully, if all goes well, we'll be in New Orleans by late summer.
We're helping to raise funds to support the Parkinson's Advocates in Research program, which Dave helps to coordinate. The program aims to provide people with Parkinson’s and care partners with the knowledge and skills needed to pair up with researchers to bring about better treatments at a faster pace.
Parkinson’s disease is a chronic neurological disease, for which there is currently no cure. But promising research is being conducted. Since its founding in 1957, PDF has dedicated over $90 million to fund the work of leading scientists throughout the world and over $37 million to support national education and advocacy programs.
Every donation really does make a difference in advancing PDF’s mission. Please help me reach my goal by making a donation today.
More than 81 percent of PDF’s funds go directly toward its programs. PDF is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, and all gifts are tax deductible.
