Do you have questions about this course, Parkinson’s Disease: A Practical Approach to Evaluation & Treatment for the Physical Therapist? Please browse the answers below. If your question has not been answered, please email us at ptherapy@pdf.org or call us at (800) 457-6676.
Q: Who should participate in the course?
A: This course is designed for physical therapists that want to better understand Parkinson’s in order to better care for the growing population of people living with the disease. The program is most suitable for physical therapists (PTs) working with the gaining population in a variety of settings including acute care, long-term care, both in-hospital settings and clinical settings. This is a perfect introduction to Parkinson’s care for recent PT graduates or other PTs who just want to improve the care they give to people living with Parkinson’s.
Q: What is the cost to participate?
A: There is no charge to watch this course online.
Q: Are you offering continuing educational credit?
A: Yes. Continuing educational credit will be provided. If you view online, watch the four modules that make up the course, each of which is approximately one and a half hours in length. Following each module, you will need to take a brief exam to test your knowledge of Parkinson’s. After viewing one of the four modules, you will need to take and pass an exam (70 percent pass rate) to receive the certificate for that module. You can watch each one at your own pace and take the tests at your own pace. Once all four modules are completed and you have passed each of the four exams, you will earn a total of 8.0 contact hours or 0.8 CEUs.
Q: Is this an annual course?
A: This is the first online PT course designed collaboratively between PDF, APDA, APTA, and VNSNY. Please let us know if you find this course to be valuable to your patient care. Your feedback will help us determine if similar programs are developed in the future. If you enjoy this course and would like to see it repeated, email us at info@pdf.org.
Q: How can I view online?
A: Our webcast will allow you to view video broadcasts of the physical therapy symposium from any computer with high-speed Internet access. If you choose to join us for the live online course on Friday, April 20, you will be able to submit questions directly to the speakers during their talks. You can view the entire course LIVE that day. You can also watch only portions of the course LIVE and then return when the course is posted as a taped course (viewers of the taped course are not able to submit questions directly to the speakers).
Q: Do I have to register to view online?
A: Yes, registration is required. You can watch some of the talks live or watch all of them taped. We don’t expect you to watch all the sessions in one sitting. This is the great thing about webcast technology; you can watch the program on a schedule that is convenient for you.
Q:
Is there a registration fee to view online?
A: This online course is free. The event hosts want to ensure maximum exposure of what we believe to be a valuable program for physical therapists and something that will ultimately help provide better care to people who are living with Parkinson’s.
Q: Can I broadcast this to others?
A:
If you are teaching a physical therapy class, we would be pleased if you would share this resource with your students and colleagues. You can do this by broadcasting the course in class, one talk at a time, when it is convenient to your teaching schedule. If your students want to test themselves and get educational credit, they would then need to sign up themselves and take the four, short online tests to get their own certificates.
Q: When can I watch the symposium?
A: The live course will be broadcast in real time on Friday, April 20. If you miss the course that day, or can only join us for part of the day, all the sessions will be posted online for viewing by Friday, May 4.
Starting on Friday, May 4, 2012, the course will be available for you to watch 24 hours a day, seven days a week through to April 30, 2013.
