Fundraising Page for Eric Young

Date of Event: 07/06/2012
Location: Lake Belle Taine, Nevis, MN
Welcome to My PDF Champions Home Page:

As a Parkinson’s Disease Foundation (PDF) Champion, I am working to raise funds to improve the lives and futures of people touched by Parkinson’s and to ultimately find a cure.

In honor of my mother Barbara Vandergraft, who has courageously battled Parkinsons Disease for over 27 years, my good friend, Sean Bartels and I will be the first individuals to swim the entire length (over 5 miles) of Lake Belle Taine in Northern Minnesota this July 6th. Lake Belle Taine has always been a special place for my mother and I and her ashes will be scattered there after her passing.

My mother has been my hero, and an inspiration to me in so many ways. She was the sweetest woman with the gentlest heart, but was tough as nails - she never gave an inch to Parkinsons without figting it for all she was worth. I hope that doing this swim in her honor will keep alive her courgageous and indominatable spirit, and at the same time raise awareness about Parkinsons disease and help raise much needing funding.

Parkinson’s disease is chronic neurological disease, for which there is currently no cure. But promising research is being conducted. Since its founding in 1957, PDF has dedicated over $90 million to fund the work of leading scientists throughout the world and over $37 million to support national education and advocacy programs.

Every donation really does make a difference in advancing PDF’s mission. Please help me reach my goal by making a donation today.

Thank you in advance for your support!

5/19/2013Dear Eric, You were a wonderful, loving son to your mom. You were the light of her life. Just as she was so very courageous, so you are, too, not just in doing this challenging swim but also in being a constant supportive presence in her life even with many miles between you. You and I will always miss her. Love, Sandy BlySandy Bly

3/29/2013I am so sorry to hear about the passing of your dear and wonderful mother. I lost my father in September to Alzheimer's and I understand what a disease can do to the individual and their loved ones. Its difficult to see the ones you love suffer and get taken away from us too soon. Your mom looks like she was pure Heaven on earth, no wonder you loved her so much. I think what you are doing is both brave (a little crazy LOL) and inspirational to everyone and your mom must be so proud she raised such a good son!!! Good luck on your swim, good thing there are no sharks in the Lake ha ha. Wishing you the best on your fundraiser! Regards, Vicki FuglisterVicki Fuglister
